Ginger Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    5 lb. cucumbers
    1/2 c. alum
    1/2 c. ginger
    2 pt. vinegar
    2 pt. water
    5 lb. sugar
    1/2 pkg. pickle spices
    6 drops green food coloring
Preparation
    Peel and cut cucumbers in small strips.
    Soak 24 hours (2 gallons water and 3 cups lime).
    Rinse well.
    Soak 2 hours in alum and water to cover them.
    Wash 3 times.
    Soak 6 hours in ginger and water to cover.
    Rinse well.
    Drain.
