Layered Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 head iceberg lettuce, broken in pieces
    1 1/2 c. diced celery
    1 c. chopped green pepper
    1 1/2 c. chopped onion
    1 (10 oz.) pkg. frozen peas, cooked, drained and chilled
    6 oz. shredded Cheddar cheese
    1 pt. plus 1 Tbsp. Hellmann's mayonnaise
    1 can bacon bits
Preparation
    Layer in a 9 x 13-inch dish as listed.
    Use the mayonnaise to seal in the vegetables.
    Cover and chill 8 hours.
    Add the bacon bits after chilling.
