German Red Cabbage - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 small head red cabbage
    1 small chopped onion
    2 Tbsp. sugar
    1 tsp. salt
    1 bay leaf
    1/4 c. water
    2 Tbsp. red wine vinegar
    1 chopped apple
    3 slices bacon
Preparation
    Remove cabbage core; shred cabbage.
    Add onion, sugar, salt, bay leaf and water.
    Bring to a boil, then simmer 20 minutes.
    Add vinegar and apple.
    Cook additional 3 or 4 minutes.
    Sprinkle with bacon bits.
