Apple Dumplings - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. water
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
    1/4 c. butter or margarine
    2 c. self-rising flour
    3/4 c. shortening
    1/2 c. milk
    6 whole apples, pared and cored
Preparation
    For syrup, mix water, sugar and cinnamon.
    Cook for 5 minutes (simmer), then add butter.
    While syrup is cooking, in a bowl put flour and shortening.
    Cut shortening into flour until it resembles coarse bread crumbs.
    Add milk all at once.
    Stir until moistened.
