Tomato Catsup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    tomatoes (enough to make 1 gal. when cooked)
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 pt. cider vinegar
    2 Tbsp. ground allspice
    3 Tbsp. salt
    1 Tbsp. black pepper
    1/2 Tbsp. ground cloves
Preparation
    Select good firm ripe tomatoes; scald and strain through a coarse sieve to remove seed and skin.
    When cold, add to each gallon tomatoes the other ingredients; let simmer slowly for 3 hours.
    Seal in bottles or jars.
