Floating Island Punch - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 (6 oz.) can frozen lemon juice
    3 (6 oz.) cans frozen orange juice
    1 qt. sparkling water or white grape juice
    1 (4 oz.) bottle maraschino cherries and juice
    1 pt. lemon or orange sherbet
    1 qt. ginger ale
    1 c. water
    ice cubes
    1 orange, sliced thin
Preparation
    Heat sugar and water until sugar dissolves; cool.
    Combine fruit juices, ginger ale, sparkling water and fruit.
    Add syrup; pour into punch bowl.
    Add ice cubes.
    Drop in sherbet by spoonful or in balls, using an ice cream dipper.
    Makes 20 to 25 servings.
