Macaroni And Cheese - cooking recipe

1 pkg. macaroni
2 Tbsp. butter
2 Tbsp. flour
1 3/4 c. milk
1/2 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
1/2 lb. American cheese, diced or grated
1/3 c. bread crumbs
Preparation

Cook macaroni as directed; drain. Melt butter in heavy saucepan; blend in flour. Stir in milk slowly and cook, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens. Add seasonings and cheese, stirring until cheese melts. Place macaroni in 1-quart casserole. Pour cheese mixture over macaroni. Sprinkle bread crumbs on top. Bake in 400\u00b0 oven 20 minutes.
