Red Beans And Rice - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. red or pinto beans
    1 medium onion, chopped
    1 lb. ham pieces
    1 lb. smoked sausage
    3 bay leaves
    1 1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. pepper
Preparation
    Wash beans and soak in water overnight.
    Drain beans.
    Put in a large pot (cooks better in a heavy pot).
    Cut sausage in 1/2-inch pieces and brown in oil.
    Remove sausage and saute onions.
    Add all ingredients to beans.
    Cover with water and cook until tender.
    Serve over rice.
