Pfefferneusse - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. sugar
    1 c. dark syrup
    1 c. shortening or butter
    1/2 c. black coffee
    1 tsp. baking powder
    2 tsp. aniseed, crushed
    5 c. flour
    2 tsp. aniseed flavoring (optional)
Preparation
    Combine all ingredients.
    Roll into long, thin rolls in wax paper.
    Refrigerate overnight.
    Slice into 1/4 to 1/2-inch slices. Bake at 325\u00b0 for 10 to 15 minutes, until lightly browned.
    Cool and store in airtight container.
    Will keep indefinitely.
    Yield: about 800 peppernuts.
