May'S Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 qt. sliced medium cukes
    6 medium white onions, sliced
    3 cloves garlic
    1/3 c. coarse salt
    5 c. sugar
    3 c. vinegar
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
Preparation
    Do not peel cucumbers; slice thin.
    Add onions and garlic cloves.
    Add salt.
    Cover with cracked ice; mix thoroughly.
    Let stand 3 hours or overnight; drain well.
    Combine remaining ingredients and pour over cucumber mixture.
    Heat just until boiling.
    Seal in hot jars.
    Makes 8 pints.
