Italian Cream Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/4 lb. butter
    1/2 c. vegetable shortening
    2 c. sugar
    5 eggs, separated
    2 c. cake flour
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 can coconut
    1 c. chopped nuts
Preparation
    Beat egg whites until stiff.
    Cream margarine and shortening. Add sugar and beat until smooth.
    Add one egg yolk at a time, beating well after each; stir in vanilla.
    Sift together flour and soda; add alternately with buttermilk, beating well each time. Stir in coconut and nuts.
    Fold in egg whites..
    Pour into 3 lightly greased layer pans.
    Bake in preheated 350\u00b0 oven for 25 minutes or until done.
    Cool thoroughly.
    Spread icing between layers and on top and sides of cake.
