Donuts - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    4 eggs
    2 c. buttermilk and 2 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. nutmeg
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/4 c. melted shortening
    2 tsp. baking powder in 5 c. flour
Preparation
    Mix in this order:
    sugar, salt, shortening, eggs, buttermilk, soda, flour and baking powder.
    Roll to thickness desired.
    Cut with donut cutter and save center for \"donut holes.\"
    All donuts may be served plain or sugared or powdered sugared.
