German Steamed Slaw - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 lb. cabbage shredded
    3 large onions, chopped
    1 lb. bacon
    1 1/2 Tbsp. salt
    1 Tbsp. pepper
    2 Tbsp. celery seed
    1 (28 oz.) can tomatoes
    2 c. vinegar
    3/4 c. sugar
Preparation
    Fry bacon and reserve the grease.
    Chop cabbage and onions. In a large, heavy pot, mix cabbage, onions, salt, pepper, celery seed and tomatoes.
    Add sugar and vinegar to warm bacon grease and then add to the cabbage mixture.
    Cook slow until cabbage is very soft and translucent.
    Stir occasionally.
