Merritt'S Caldo Gallego(Turnip Green Soup) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. Northern beans (dried)
    2 qt. water
    1 small ham hock (1/2 lb.)
    1/2 lb. beef short ribs or 1 pkg. stew meat
    2 potatoes
    1 pkg. frozen turnip greens or collard greens (fresh is good too!)
    1/2 chopped onion
    1/2 chopped green pepper (bell, that is)
    3 Italian sausages (skins removed)
    1 bay leaf
    1 tsp. salt
Preparation
    Soak beans overnight.
    In a large pot, put the water, ham hock, short ribs, bay leaf and salt.
    Boil.
    Skim foam, simmer and cook for 30 minutes.
    Add beans and cook until tender.
