All-American Burgers - cooking recipe

1 clove garlic, minced or 2 Tbsp. onion, finely chopped
2 Tbsp. catsup
1 Tbsp. steak sauce
1 Tbsp. cooking oil
1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. vinegar
few dashes hot pepper sauce
1 lb. lean ground beef
1/8 to 1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
4 hamburger buns
American cheese slices (optional)
Preparation

Combine first eight ingredients in saucepan.
Bring to boil; simmer, uncovered, for 5 minutes.
Combine beef, salt and pepper; form into 4 (3/4-inch thick) patties.
