Crisp Pickle Slices - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 qt. sliced cucumbers (medium sized)
    2 onions, sliced
    3 Tbsp. salt
    2 c. sugar
    1 tsp. turmeric
    1 tsp. celery seed
    1 Tbsp. white mustard seed
    2 c. vinegar
    a small amount of green food coloring
Preparation
    Do not pare cucumbers; slice 1/8-inch thick.
    Add onions and salt.
    Cover with cracked ice and mix thoroughly.
    Let stand 3 hours; drain thoroughly.
    Combine remaining ingredients and bring to a boil.
    Drop cucumber slices into mixture.
    Cook until they become transparent.
    Seal in hot, sterilized jars.
    Makes 4 pints.
