"Newfie" Corn Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 stick butter
    1 large yellow onion, chopped fine
    1/4 tsp. butter
    3 large peeled potatoes, in 1-inch cubes
    2 large cans creamed corn
    2 large cans evaporated milk
    salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
    In a 2-quart pot, melt butter.
    Add onion and cook until soft, but not brown.
    Add potatoes, 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1 cup water. Cook until potatoes are soft and water is evaporated.
    (Add more water, if necessary.)
    Add creamed corn and evaporated milk to desired consistency.
    Simmer 5 minutes over low heat.
    Add salt and pepper to taste.
    Serve with hot Italian bread or rolls and a salad.
