Old Fashioned Lentil Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 ham bone
    10 c. water
    1 pkg. lentils, dried or 2 1/2 c.
    4 medium carrots, diced
    1 large onion, diced, 1 c.
    2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. sugar
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    1 bay leaf
Preparation
    Combine all ingredients.
    Cover and simmer 1 hour or until lentils are tender (1/2 hour in pressure cooker).
    Take out ham bone.
    Strip off bits of meat and return to soup.
    Remove bay leaf.
    Serve with 2 tablespoons vinegar on top.
    Croutons may also be served with soup.
    Serves 8.
