Ingredients
-
2 c. sugar
1/2 c. margarine, melted
4 (1 oz.) sq. melted unsweetened chocolate
4 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
3/4 c. confectioners sugar
6 cooking apples (golden Delicious are a good choice)
8 Tbsp. (1 stick) sweet butter
1/2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
2/3 c. Calvados
Preparation
-
Core the apples and peel them if you like.
(We prefer the added texture of the peels, but peeled apples look more sophisticated.)
Cut the apples crosswise into 1/4-inch thick slices.
Melt about 2 tablespoons of the butter in a skillet and add a single layer of apple slices.
Raise the heat and saute the slices, turning occasionally, until browned, about 5 minutes. With a slotted spoon, transfer apples to a bowl.
Repeat with more butter and another batch of apples until all have been cooked.
