Ingredients

1 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. boiling water
4 Tbsp. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. cocoa
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation

Put sugar and water in 2-quart pan.
Cream shortening and sugar.
Beat in egg.
Sift dry ingredients together.
Add alternately with milk.
Add vanilla.
Pour pudding batter into hot syrup, being careful not to mix with syrup.
Cook, tightly covered, for 1 hour on medium heat.
Do not take cover of kettle off while cooking pudding, or pudding will not cook right.
