"Watermelon Rind" Pickle - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    8 qt. cucumber chunks (large ones, yellow okay)
    2 c. pickling lime
    6 lb. sugar
    6 sticks cinnamon
    1 1/2 tsp. whole cloves
    8 qt. water
    3 pt. vinegar
    1 1/2 tsp. mace
Preparation
    Day 1:\tPeel and seed chunk cucumbers to make 8 quarts. Cut into chunks and soak 24 hours in
    2 cups lime mixed with 8 quarts cool water.
