Southern Spoonbread - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 c. cornmeal
1 tsp. salt
1 egg
1 c. buttermilk
3/4 c. boiling water
1 Tbsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. soda
1 1/2 tsp. melted shortening
Preparation

Pour boiling water over meal.
Let stand until cool.
Add sugar, salt and beaten egg.
Dissolve soda into buttermilk and add to batter; mix well.
Add melted shortening; pour in greased deep dish or skillet.
Bake at 400\u00b0 for 25 to 30 minutes.
