Molasses Apple Pan Dowdy - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    5 or 6 tart apples
    1/2 c. water
    1/2 c. molasses
    3/4 c. sugar
    3 T. Butter
    3 T. Cornstarch
    2/3 c. milk
    1/2 t. mace
    1/2 t. salt
    2 c. Flour
    4 t. Baking powder
    1/3 c. shortening
Preparation
    Pare, core and slice apples in wedges into a buttered baking dish 8x13x2. Add water and cook in oven a few minutes until soft. In a saucepan mix molasses, sugar, cornstarch, mace and salt. Boil together thoroughly blended.
