Apple Butter - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    8 lb. apples
    4 c. apple cider
    1/2 c. sugar for each cup fruit
    2 tsp. ground cloves
    1 tsp. allspice
    4 tsp. cinnamon
Preparation
    Wash, stem and\tquarter apples.
    Place cider in kettle. Add apples and\tcook
    slowly
    until
    soft.
    Put apples through strainer.
    Measure apples and for each cup, add 1/2 cup sugar. Mix well.
    Add\tspices.
    Cook
    slowly
    over low heat, stirring until sugar is
    dissolved,
    then\tcook rapidly until butter is thick.
