Caramels - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. granulated sugar
    1 c. brown sugar
    1 c. white corn syrup
    1 can sweetened condensed milk
    1 stick butter
    2 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. nuts, chopped
Preparation
    Stir and cook over low heat to good firm ball stage, 248\u00b0. Remove from heat; stir in 2 teaspoons vanilla and nuts.
    Stir just enough to mix.
    Pour into greased, shallow pan, 3/4-inch thick. When firm, invert onto cutting board; with sharp thin blade knife, cut into 3/4-inch squares.
    Wrap in waxed paper.
