Silver And Gold Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. butter
    1 tsp. vanilla
    3 Tbsp. milk
    1 tsp. baking powder
    few drops lemon extract
    1 1/4 c. sugar
    3 eggs
    1 c. cake flour
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. chopped nuts
Preparation
    Preheat oven to 325\u00b0.
    Cream butter with 1/2 cup sugar and vanilla.
    Add egg yolks, beating well.
    Stir in milk.
    Sift flour, baking powder and salt together.
    Gradually add to batter.
    Add extract.
    Pour into greased and floured 9-inch square pan.
    Beat egg whites until frothy.
    Gradually add remaining 3/4 cup sugar until meringue holds its shape.
    Fold in nuts.
    Spread over batter; sprinkle with a little granulated sugar and bake 30 minutes.
    Cool before cutting.
