    1 1/2 c. grated raw carrots
    2/3 c. chopped walnuts
    2 1/2 c. sifted flour
    4 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1 tsp. mace
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/3 c. hot water
    date filling or jam
