War Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. brown sugar
    1 1/2 c. water
    1/4 c. molasses
    2 1/2 c. flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. shortening
    4 tsp. baking powder
    1 1/2 tsp. mixed spiced
    1/4 c. candied peel
Preparation
    Place sugar, water, molasses, salt and shortening in a saucepan.
    Bring to a rapid boil.
    Cool and then add flour, baking powder and spices sifted together.
    Add the candied peel.
    Beat thoroughly and turn into a greased pan; bake in a 350\u00b0 oven for 45 to 60 minutes.
