Pickled Beets - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3/4 c. sugar
    3/4 c. vinegar
    3/4 c. water
    1 1/2 tsp. salt
    3/4 tsp. pepper
    1 large onion, thinly sliced
    2 (13 1/4 oz.) cans sliced beets (undrained)
Preparation
    In a saucepan, combine the first six ingredients. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat. Simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat. Add beets. Let stand at room temperature for 1 hour. Cover and chill 6 hours or overnight.
