Park Avenue Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 1/2 c. sifted flour
    2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    4 egg whites
    1/2 c. sugar
    1/2 c. lard
    1 c. sugar
    1 c. milk
    1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. chopped black walnuts
Preparation
    Line a 9 x 13-inch pan with double thickness of wax paper. Sift dry ingredients together.
    Beat egg whites until frothy and add 1/2 cup sugar making high peaked meringue.
    Cream lard and add sugar.
    Beat until fluffy and add milk and dry ingredients alternately.
    Combine with meringue and put in pan.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 to 35 minutes.
