Ingredients

1 c. butter
1 c. sugar
3 1/2 c. flour (regular plain)
3 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. milk
8 egg whites, beaten
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. lemon extract
Preparation

Cream butter; add sugar gradually, continuing to cream well. Combine flour and baking powder.
Sift together and add to creamed mixture alternately with milk. Beat egg whites until stiff but not dry.
Fold into creamed mixture.
Add flavoring.
Bake in 3 (9-inch) pans which have been greased and floured or lined with wax paper.
The oven should be 350\u00b0 oven for 30 to 35 minutes. Makes 3 (9-inch) layers.
