Homemade Lye Soap

Put 3 gallons water in old-time wash pot.
Melt lye, then grease.
Let boil.
When grease melts, gradually add the remaining water.
Cook slow or it will boil over.
Use wooden paddle to stir constantly.
When soap is done, lift paddle from the pot and it will string.
To test, put a little soap in cold water and it will form a ball.
Can be put in molds.
Do not use aluminum.

Homemade Lye Soap

Empty can of lye in water.
Stir slowly until lye is dissolved. Allow to stand until lye is completely dissolved and the water is just barely lukewarm.
(The lye heats the water.) Pour grease into large stone bowl or enamel container.
Using wooden spoon or stick, slowly stir while pouring dissolved lye mixture into grease, stirring constantly.
Stir for 15 minutes until mixture begins to get thick.
If soap thickens before time is up, pour into molds lined with wax paper.

Microwave Soap

Save your broken pieces of bath soap by dropping in a quart jar with lid.
Keep closed.
When full, place soap in bowl in microwave.
Set on Medium power, about 10 minutes.
When soap chips begin to puff up, stir.
Do this several times.
Spray small plastic containers with pan coating.
When soap chips are melted, use a spoon back dipped in water to pat soup firmly down in containers.
Let dry overnight and cut to size if too large.
Let dry a week before use.

Laundry Soap Inexpensive

Everlasting Soft Soap

Cut the bar of soap into small squares that will fit into the pump bottle.
Put them in the bottle (1/4 bar to 8 oz water) Add water to fill bottle.
Let sit an hour or two, shaking once in a while.
You will have a great liquid soap that will make your hands feel soft!
As you use up the liquid add more water until all the chunks of soap are gone.
Then add more soap!
The chunks of soap actually look pretty in the container.
I bet the high end stores come out with this in a few months!

Foam Soap Refill

Gently mix soap with water.
Do not shake.
Pour into foam soap dispenser.
Note: I used Dawn dishwashing liquid (apple blossom anti-bacterial soap) with great results.
I did a test run first using 1 tablespoon soap to 4 tablespoons water.

Uncooked Soap

Note:
Basic formula, make approximately 9 pounds of soap.

Lye Soap

Make soap outside using an iron pot or enamel kettle.
Put water in kettle and carefully add the lye.
Avoid breathing the fumes.
Pour grease slowly into the lye water, stirring all the time with a wooden paddle or a wooden spoon.
Stir until the mixture thickens.
Let cool overnight and cut into bars.
Store in a dry place.

Lye Soap

Prepare grease.
Heat together fat and drippings; strain.
If fat contains meat juices or lots of dark particles, allow to cool, then use fat which rises to the top.
Discard dark particles which settle on bottom.
In large iron kettle, mix lye, Borax and water. Slowly add warm grease.
Stir, stir, stir frequently throughout the day with wooden spoon.
When the mix becomes firm and can no longer be stirred easily, wear gloves and pour soap into forms.
Do not double recipe.
Shave off to wash clothes.

Vanilla And Almond Soap

Grind the almonds to a fine powder in a food processor or coffee grinder and set aside.
Shred the soap and set aside.
In a heavy saucepan bring the water to a boil; then reduce heat to a simmer and add the shredded soap until it is melted.
Remove the pan from the heat and add the almond powder, almond oil, and vanilla fragrance oil, stirring until well blended.
Spoon the soap into a mold and let set for five hours or until hardened.
Use it in the shower!

Dissolve lye in cold water, being careful not to let it splash.
Let it stand until cool, then add warm fat, slowly, stirring constantly.
Add all other ingredients.
Stir until thick, about one hour!
