Prepare Date Filling; cool.
Heat oven to 400\u00b0.
Grease square pan, 9 x 9 x 2-inch.
Mix brown sugar, margarine and shortening. Mix in baking mix and oats.
Press half of the crumbly mixture in pan; spread with filling.
Top with remaining crumbly mixture; press gently into filling.
Bake until light brown, 25 to 30 minutes.
Cut into bars, about 2 x 1 1/2-inch.
Makes 2 dozen cookies.

Oatmeal Date Bars

Melt butter and mix all ingredients in large bowl. Form into bars or balls and coat in chocolate.

Combine shortening, salt and vanilla.
Blend.
Add sugar and cream well.
Add beaten egg and mix thoroughly.
Sift flour and baking powder.
Add to the first, alternately with milk, blending well.
Chill dough.
Roll dough 1/8-inch thick on floured board. Cut into 3-inch cookie.
Place one cookie on ungreased cookie sheet.
Add 1 teaspoon of Date Filling (recipe to follow).
Cover with another cookie.
Press together with a fork.
Prick top of each cookie with a fork.
Bake at 375\u00b0 for about 15 minutes.

Mix by hand.
Cook dates, sugar and water over medium heat until thick and smooth. Remove from heat and add, mixing by hand, vanilla, 1/4 teaspoon salt and lemon juice.
Set aside.
Sift together the flour, soda and salt.
Add oatmeal, brown sugar and butter and mix until crumbly.
Spread 1/2 of oatmeal mixture in a 9 x 13-inch pan.
Spread date mixture over.
Crumble remaining oatmeal mix over; press to flatten.
Bake 30 minutes at 350\u00b0.

This is crumbly mixture.
Pat half into greased pan. Spread on date filling, then top with balance of crumbly mixture.
Bake in a 350\u00b0 oven for 35 to 40 minutes.

Cook dates, sugar and water until thick (low temperature).
Add baking soda to melted butter.
Mix melted butter into mixture of brown sugar, flour and oatmeal.
Grease 9 x 13-inch pan.

Put 1/2 crumb mixture on bottom of pan; press down. Add date mixture.
Crumble rest of crumb mixture on top.
Cook for 20 to 30 minutes.

Cook dates, water, sugar and nuts over low heat until dates are soft. Remove from heat. Cream the margarine and brown sugar and add oats, flour, salt and soda. Divide crumbly mixture in half and spread 1/2 in bottom of a 9 x 12-inch pan.
Pour date mixture over and spread evenly to cover. Top with remaining crumbly mixture. Bake at 350\u00b0 for 20 minutes or until browned.
Cool and cut into bars.

Delightful Date Bars

Mix butter and sugar until fluffy.
Add rest of the dry ingredients.
Use large (13 x 9-inch) pan.
Grease well.
Use 1/2 of the dry mixture and spread in cake pan.
Pat down well.
Spread out the date mixture on top.
Then follow with rest of the dry mixture.
Pat down lightly.
Bake 25 to 30 minutes at 375\u00b0.
Cut into bars while warm.

Oatmeal Date Bars

Place first 3 ingredients in saucepan and cook until thick. Cool.
Blend the remaining ingredients until the mixture is crumbly. Divide into 2 parts.
Pack half the mixture in the bottom of a greased pan about 7 1/2 x 11-inches in size. Cover with the cooked date mixture and top with the rest of the dough.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 40 minutes. Cool and cut into bars.
Frost with confectioners icing, if desired.

Pineapple Date Bars

Mix sugar, flour, oatmeal.
Add margarine and mix well.
Add baking soda which has been dissolved in the water.
Mix well and spread 1/2 of mixture in a 9 x 13 inch pan.
Spread on filling and crumble rest of batter over filling.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 20-30 minutes.
Cut into bars while hot.

Cranberry And Caramel Date Bars

Boil first 3 ingredients until light thickness.
Mix together. In middle add 1/2 cup walnuts (cut small).
Mix in dry ingredients. Add 1 1/2 squares margarine or butter.
Mix by hand.
Pour 2/3 of this preparation in square pan, about 9-inch square or 6 x 10-inches.
Add dates on oatmeal preparation.
Press evenly and add walnuts cut in pieces; press also.
Add rest of mix on top.
Press again.
Bake 30 minutes at 325\u00b0.
Let cool.
Cut into bars.

Apricot Date Bars

Cook dates, apricots, 1/3 cup brown sugar and water until thickens.
Set aside to cool slightly.
Next, blend together and hold shortening and 1 cup brown sugar.
Sift and mix flour and soda.
Mix in oatmeal and vanilla to flour and soda.
Work these into sugar mixture, then spread 1/2 oatmeal crumb mixture into 8 x 8-inch pan.
Add fruit mixture and top with remaining crumbs.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 minutes.

Grandma'S Chewy Oatmeal Apple Bars

Preheat oven to 400. Grease 15 1/2\" x 10 1/2\" x 1\" jelly roll pan.
Cream butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla in mixing bowl until fluffy.
Stir in flour, baking soda and salt.
Add oats, mix well.
Spread batter in pan, sprinkle with walnuts and apple bits.
Bake in preheated oven for 10 minutes.
Cool in pan, cut into 3 1/2\" x 2\" bars.

Oatmeal Date Bread

Bring milk almost to a simmer. Place oatmeal and dates in a large mixing bowl and add milk. Set aside to cool to room temperature. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. When oat mixture is cool, beat in egg. Stir in dry ingredients, mixing well.
Pour batter into a buttered 9x5 inch loaf pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 45-50 minutes or until the top is crusty and golden. Cool before slicing.

Cut into squares.
Roll in powdered sugar.
