Ingredients

2 1/4 lb blackberries
2 1/4 lb pears, peeled, cored, finely chopped
5 cups granulated sugar
Preparation

Combine blackberries, pears and 1/2 cup water in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil then reduce heat and simmer for about 20 mins, or until pulpy.
Weigh fruit mixture. For every 6 oz of fruit, measure out 6 oz of sugar. Return fruit mixture and sugar to pan. Stir over medium-high heat, without boiling, until sugar dissolves. Bring to a boil and boil without stirring, for about 35 mins, or until the jam sets when a drop is placed on a frozen plate.
