Chocolate Cake With Fudge Frosting - cooking recipe

3 1/3 cups granulated sugar
1 cup butter, chopped
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1 tsp baking soda
3 1/4 cups self-rising flour
4 None large eggs

7 tbsp butter, chopped
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 cup powdered sugar
4 tbsp cocoa powder
Preparation

Preheat oven to 350\u00b0F. Grease a deep 11x13 inch baking dish and line base with baking paper.
Combine sugar, butter, cocoa powder, baking soda and 2 cups water in a medium saucepan. Stir over high heat, without boiling, until sugar dissolves. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 mins. Transfer to a large bowl and let cool to room temperature.
Once cool, beat in flour and eggs until smooth. Transfer to prepared pan and bake for 50 mins. Let cool in pan for 10 mins then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Meanwhile, for the fudge frosting, stir butter, 1/3 cup water and sugar in a small saucepan over low heat, without boiling, until sugar dissolves. Sift powdered sugar and cocoa powder into a small bowl. Gradually stir in hot butter mixture. Cover and chill for 20 mins, or until thickened. Beat with a wooden spoon until spreadable.
Spread frosting over cooled cake.
