Family Chocolate Cake With Fudge Frosting - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 1/3 cups granulated sugar
    1 cup butter, chopped
    1/3 cup cocoa powder, sifted
    1 tsp baking soda, sifted
    3 1/4 cups self-rising flour
    4 None large eggs, lightly beaten
    None None FOR THE FUDGE FROSTING
    7 tbsp butter
    1/2 cup granulated sugar
    1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
    1/3 cup cocoa powder
Preparation
    Preheat oven to 350\u00b0F. Grease and line a 10x13 inch cake pan with parchment paper.
    In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, butter, cocoa powder, baking soda and 2 cups water. Stir over low heat, without boiling, until sugar has dissolved. Bring to a boil then reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for 5 mins. Transfer mixture to a large bowl and let cool to room temperature.
    Add flour and eggs to cooled mixture. Beat until smooth. Transfer to prepared pan and bake for 50 mins, or until a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool in pan for 10 mins then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
    Meanwhile, to make the fudge frosting, combine butter, sugar and 1/3 cup water in small saucepan. Stir over low heat, without boiling, until sugar has dissolved. Sift powdered sugar and cocoa powder into a small bowl then gradually stir in hot butter mixture. Cover and chill for 20 mins, or until thickened. Beat with wooden spoon until spreadable. Spread over cold cake.
