American Flag Cake Balls - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 x 500g pack Devil's food cake mix
    250 g cream cheese, softened
    125 g mini chocolate chips
    125 g walnuts, finely chopped
    60 None mini marshmallows
2x 500 g tubs Supreme classic white frosting (Pillsbury)
3/4 tsp royal blue concentrated paste food colouring
2 tbsp dark red concentrated paste food colouring
    1 tsp white sugar strands
    1 tsp white stars sprinkles
Preparation
Prepare cake mix according to pack instructions and cook in 12 x 8 inch pan. Cool completely. Crumble the cake into crumbs into a large bowl. (Makes 10 cups). Stir in the cream cheese, chocolate chips, nuts and 5-6 tablespoons water, if necessary, so that the mixture holds together. Take heaped tablespoons of mixture and form it into balls around a marshmallow. Put them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper then freeze for 1 hour or until very firm.
Meanwhile take a 1/2 cup of frosting from 1 of the tubs and set aside for later. Put the rest of that tub of frosting in the microwave and cook on high for 15-30 seconds or until just melted. Stir until smooth. Add blue coloring and mix well until the the desired hue is reached.
Working with 1 cake ball at a time (keep the rest in the freezer), insert a lollipop stick into the cake ball far enough so it holds, then dip the cake into the blue icing gently tapping off any excess frosting. Place on a rack over a baking sheet. Repeat until you have 15 blue cake balls. Reheat the frosting for 15 seconds at a time to make dipping easier. Sprinkle these cake balls with the star shaped sprinkles. Put in the fridge until ready to assemble the cake.
Remove the cover and foil from the other tub of frosting and microwave on high for 30-45 seconds or until just melted. Stir until smooth and add the red food coloring until the desired hue is reached.\r\nAs before, work on 1 cake ball at a time with the rest still in the freezer. Insert a lollipop stick into the cake ball then dip it into the red icing and place on the rack. Repeat until you have 42 balls, reheating the frosting for 15 seconds at a time when you need to for ease of dipping. Chill cake balls at least 1 hour until firm.
To assemble the flag, place 5 blue cake balls in a row on the top left hand side of a large rectangular flat plate or board. Then add 2 more rows of blue cakes underneath.
Arrange 3 rows of red cake balls in neat rows underneath the blue ones then fill in the rest of flag with an even number of red cake balls.
Heat the reserved white frosting in the microwave for 15 seconds or until just melted. Spoon into a paper piping bag, snip off the end and pipe stripes on the red cake balls.
