Easy Vanilla Cake - cooking recipe

1/2 cup butter, chopped, at room temperature
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 None large eggs
2 1/4 cups self-rising flour, sifted
1/2 cup milk
None None sliced strawberries, to decorate
None None FOR THE ICING
2 cups powdered sugar
1 tbsp butter, chopped
1 tsp vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350\u00b0F. Lightly grease an 8 inch cake pan and line with parchment paper.
Cream butter, sugar and vanilla together until pale and creamy. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition and scraping down sides of bowl. Lightly fold in flour alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour. Transfer to prepared pan and bake for 40-45 mins, or until a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool in pan for 5 mins then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Meanwhile, to make the icing, sift powdered sugar into a bowl. Add butter, vanilla and 1 tbsp hot water. Beat until smooth. Spread over cooled cake then decorate with strawberries.
