Navy Bean & Ham Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb navy beans
    2 quarts water
    chopped onion
    chopped carrot
    1/4 cup butter
    ham bone
    ham
    salt and pepper
Preparation
    Soak navy beans according to pkg directions.
    Saute onion and carrots in butter.
    Combine all ingredients in large soup kettle; bring to a boil and let simmer until beans are soft- about 1 to 2 hours.
