Golden Cornbread - cooking recipe

1 cup yellow cornmeal
1 cup flour
1/4 cup sugar, if desired
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup milk
1 egg
1/4 cup vegetable shortening
Preparation

Combine cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add milk, egg, and shortening.
Beat until smooth about 1 minute.
Bake in a greased 8-inch square pan in preheated oven (425\u00b0F) 20-25 minutes.
