Carob Oat Brownies - cooking recipe

1/2 cup butter
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon orange peel
1 teaspoon lemon peel
1 cup pitted chopped dates
1/3 cup chatfield carob powder
1 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup pastry flour
1/2 cup wheat germ
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/3 cup milk
Preparation

Combine butter and egg and beat well. Add vanilla, orange peel, lemon peel, dates and carob powder and combine thoroughly.
In a separate bowl, stir together oats, flour, wheat germ, baking powder and three spices. Combine the two mixes, add milk and beat until blended.
Spread batter in a 10x12 inch rimmed baking dish. Sprinkle with carob chips or nuts. Bake 25 minutes in a 350 degree oven. Cool on rack. Cut into squares.
