Hamburger-Rice Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 lbs lean ground beef
    1 cup onion, chopped
    1 cup potato, cubed
    1 cup carrot, diced
    1/2 cup celery, diced
    1/4 cup rice
    1 (28 ounce) can stewed tomatoes
    1 small bay leaf
    1/2 teaspoon thyme
    1/4 teaspoon basil
    1 1/2 teaspoons salt
    1/2 teaspoon pepper
    1 1/2 quarts water
Preparation
    Saute ground beef and onion until brown; drain.
    Add other ingredients.
    Bring to a boil.
    Reduce heat and simmer at least 1 hour.
