Kichadi - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 tablespoons oil
    2 cloves
    1 piece cinnamon stick
    3 cardamom pods
    1 dash turmeric powder
    2 tablespoons ground fenugreek (I didn't use but may try in the future)
    1 onion
    1 bell pepper
    2 cups brown rice
    6 cups water
    2 teaspoons salt
    1 cup split peas
Preparation
    Remove cardamom seeds from pods and saute spices in oil in large pot.
    Add chopped onions and bell pepper; saute until onion is soft.
    Add rice and cook for 5 minutes.
    Add water and salt and boil; cook on low for 20 minutes.
    Add split peas and cook for 35 minutes more.
