Ingredients
    1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
    1/2 cup granulated white sugar
    1/2 cup shortening
    1 egg
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    1 tablespoon milk
    1 cup sifted flour
    1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    1/2 teaspoon baking powder
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1 cup uncooked oatmeal
Preparation
    Heat oven to 350 degrees.
    Grease a cookie sheet.
    Beat sugars, shortening, egg, vanilla and milk until smooth.
    Sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
    Add all at once to the shortening mixture.
    Add oats; mix well.
    Drop by teaspoons, and about 2 inches apart.
    Bake 8-10 minutes until light brown.
