1917 War Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 cup corn syrup
1 cup cold water
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon clove
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 tablespoon Crisco
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Preparation

Preheat oven to 325\u00b0F
Put first 6 ingredients in saucepan. Bring to a boil and cook 3 minutes after reaching boiling point. Add Crisco.
When cool add soda dissolved in a little hot water. Add flour and baking powder. Stir.
Pour into greased tube pan. Bake for 1 hour at 325\u00b0F.
