Molasses Date Bars - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 egg, beaten
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup molasses
1/4 cup shortening, melted
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup sifted enriched flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
2/3 cup chopped nuts
1 (7 ounce) package pitted dates, chopped fine
Preparation

Beat egg, add sugar, molasses, shortening and vanilla. Stir in sifted dry ingredients, nuts and dates. Pour into 9-inch square pan lined with waxed paper, greased and lightly floured. Baked at 350F for 40 minutes. Cut into 32 bars when cool, then roll in confectioners' sugar.
