Spiced Balkan Chicken - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 skinless chicken thighs, or more to taste
    1/2 lemon, cut into wedges
    4 tablespoons olive oil
    1 onion, coarsely chopped
    2 large cloves garlic, minced
    1/2 cup dry white wine
    1 (14 ounce) can chopped tomatoes in juice
    1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
    1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
    1 pinch white sugar
    salt and ground black pepper to taste
Preparation
    Rub chicken pieces with lemon. Heat olive oil in a large Dutch oven or lidded skillet. Add onion and garlic; cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add chicken pieces and cook until browned on all sides, 5 to 10 minutes.
    Pour wine over the chicken. Add tomatoes with their juice, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, sugar, salt, and pepper; bring to a boil. Cover the Dutch oven and simmer until chicken is tender, 45 minutes to 1 hour.
