Chop Suey - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 lb. cooked, boneless pork
    1 3/4 c. cooked chicken, cut up
    1/2 lb. fresh mushrooms
    peanut oil
    1/2 lb. canned, sliced bamboo shoots, drained
    1 c. diagonally sliced celery
    8 green onions, cut
    1 c. chicken broth
    2 cloves garlic, crushed
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/8 tsp. pepper
    2 tsp. sugar
    3 Tbsp. soy sauce
    1/8 tsp. ground ginger
    3 Tbsp. sherry
    1 Tbsp. cornstarch
Preparation
    Cut pork and chicken into strips and slice mushrooms lengthwise and saute one after the other in hot oil in a heavy skillet.
    Turn frequently.
    Return pork, bamboo shoots, celery and onion to skillet.
    Set aside mushrooms and chicken.
    Add broth and garlic. Season with salt, pepper and sugar.
    Cover and bring to a boil. Combine soy sauce, ginger and sherry.
    Add cornstarch mixed with water.
    Stir into hot mixture and cook until thickened.
    Add chicken and mushrooms.
    Cook until thoroughly heated.
    Serve with rice.
