Missouri Scripture Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. white raisins (1 Samuel 30:12)
    1 c. each: red and green candied cherries, halved
    1 c. finely chopped dried figs (1 Samuel 30:12)
    1 c. brandy (preferably peach) or fresh orange juice
    1 recipe 1-2-3-4 cake (follows)
    1 1/2 tsp. each: allspice, cinnamon and nutmeg (1 Kings 10:2)
    1 c. slivered almonds, toasted (Numbers 17:8)
    1 Tbsp. honey (Exodus 16:31)
Preparation
    Preheat oven to 350\u00b0.
    Butter and flour 10-inch tube pan.
    Soak raisins, cherries and figs in brandy 15 minutes.
    Prepare the cake batter, folding in the soaked fruits, any brandy left in bowl and the remaining ingredients into the batter as directed in Step 3 (1-2-3-4 cake).
    Spoon into pan.
    Bake for 1 1/4 hours.
    If top browns too fast, lay a piece of foil loosely over it.
    Cool cake in the pan on rack 10 minutes before turning out onto rack to cool. If you wish, wrap cake in cloth sprinkled with peach brandy.
    Place in airtight can and let mellow for a day before serving.
