Fried Green Tomatoes - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 or 5 medium green tomatoes
    1/3 c. meal
    3/4 tsp. salt
    dash of pepper
    1/4 c. shortening
Preparation
    Wash tomatoes; remove stem ends.
    Cut crosswise into 1/2-inch slices.
    Combine meal, salt and pepper; coat tomato slices with meal mixture.
    Brown in shortening on one side; turn.
    Reduce heat; cook until slices are brown on both sides.
    Serve hot. Yield:
    4 to 5 servings.
